The Foundation for Business Equity (FBE) recognizes that the origins of business disparities between races in the United States are deeply rooted in the country’s beginning.
While the focus of slavery and the Jim Crow laws were on Black communities, the long-reaching impact of racial oppression has been felt by all communities of color, including Latino communities where many trace their ancestry to those migrating from colonized territories seeking better economic opportunity.
Both Blacks and Latinos suffer from not having the same historical ownership opportunities as other communities and thus lack the generational benefit. This disadvantage is important in understanding today’s racial wealth disparities.
